SYMBOL: THE SCORPION/THE PHOENIX
ELEMENT: WATER
PLANET: MARS/PLUTO
HOUSE: EIGHTH HOUSE OF SEX, DEATH + TRANSFORMATION
Scorpio's duality is not only shown by its two ruling planets--Mars and Pluto--or its icons--the Scorpion and the Phoenix--but also because it rules your shadow side. Pluto, named after the Roman God of the Underworld, asks you to turn to the darker side of the Moon and let Water sign Scorpio help you uncover buried, hidden emotions. Ruling the Eighth House of Transformation, by facing your shadow self, the Scorpio New Moon wants you to purge whatever’s holding you back from shedding your skin like the Scorpion and rising like the Phoenix.
While Pluto is encouraging major shifts, Mars, the planet of aggression, isn’t going to allow these changes to come with a side of sunshine and rainbows. Scorpio New Moons have a tendency to show you things you need to let go of and leave behind, but their Water element influence can make you cling to what you know—even if you know you need to release it. Do not—I repeat—DO NOT hold on to things that are no longer serving you. This will absolutely stunt your growth and prevent you from leveling up in this next chapter. There’s also no need to take drastic action at this time. Reflect, resolve, and plan.

Scorpio New Moon Ritual:
Normally, New Moons are all about manifesting—bringing things in, new beginnings—and Full Moons are more about releasing. While we’re still manifesting during this Scorpio New Moon (especially because it’s not an Eclipse!), we’re rather manifesting things leaving us that are no longer serving us. On a piece of paper, write down habits, limiting beliefs, people, and any toxic situation you know you need to rid from your life. Using a black candle (for banishing negativity/ending an unhealthy situation), burn your list. As you watch the paper disappear into the flames, imagine everything you wrote down vanishing from your life until nothing is left but ash. *Note: for safety reasons, it’s suggested you allow the paper to burn completely in a fire-safe dish*
Action Items and Journal Prompts to Connect with the Scorpio New Moon Energy:
Scorpio New Moons are my favorite time of year to delve into some shadow work and so I’d love to recommend a book that has been speaking to me recently: Existential Kink. Written by Dr. Carolyn Elliott, this book is all about unmasking your shadow side and embracing it to step into your full power. If you choose to give it a read I hope you get as much out of it as I have been and continue to!
